Anthropometric measurements in children;

Following are anthropometric measurements in children:

  • Weight
  • Height
  • Length

WEIGHT:

Calibration of the scale should be carried out before taking any measurements. The procedure of weigh measurement for children aging 2–18 years is as follow:

  • Direct the subject to remove his or her shoes and wear light clothing only.
  • Afterwards, the subject is asked to stand straight and still so that the weight is uniformly distributed on both feet.
  • The subject should not hold anything for support.
  • Measurements are recorded to the nearest o.1 kg.

If scenarios where the child cannot walk owing to any handicap or health issue, the weight can be measured while the child is carried by parent/caregiver subsequently subtracting the weight of parent/caregiver to find out the weight of child.

Bed scale can also be used where child is comfortably positioned in weighing sling suspended off the bed. Chair scale is another possibility for measuring the weight where child comfortably sits in the middle of the chair reclining to the back. Weight is read to the nearest 0.1kg.
